Catastrophic Mine Waste Spill in Colorado River Hi Friends of the Colorado River, BAD NEWS. Yesterday there was a catastrophic mine waste spill into a Colorado river. The spill occurred just upstream of Durango, Colorado, on the Animas River. The Animas flows into the San Juan River which flows into the Colorado River in southeast Utah.
