Save The Colorado's Glen Canyon Dam Update!

Hi Friends of the Colorado River!

This email is going to the 700 people who signed our petition "Protect and Restore the Colorado River and the Grand Canyon." We want to give you an update on where the process is and what we are doing to address it.

First, all of your comment letters were sent to the U.S. Park Service and Dept. of Interior and will be included in the public record. As such, the Department will have to respond to your comments when the Dept. renders its "Record of Decision" on how it proposes to manage Glen Canyon Dam.

Second, we sent in extensive technical and legal comments to the Dept. (those comments are posted here). Our comments argue that the Dept. did not take climate change seriously, and did not consider decommissioning and removing Glen Canyon Dam in the Final Environmental Impact Statement. We believe we have a very solid scientific argument that the Dept. did not take climate change seriously -- in fact they failed to use the best and most recent science in their analysis.

As the process moves forward, we will now wait until the Dept. releases the "Record of Decision," and then we will dig into to it to see if they have addressed your and our comments. If not, we may take further action depending on the advice of our legal and scientific team.

Save The Colorado will be picking and choosing our battles, trying to make as big as difference as possible when opportunities are available.
